The Blue Canyon Lakes golf course is the 2nd golf course at Blue Canyon Country Club. The hole routing makes good use of meandering creeks and water-filled canyons created by abandoned open cast tin mining with natural land flow left relatively unchanged from the original jungle contours.
The front 9 of the Blue Canyon Lakes Course rusns through a landscape of lakes and natural canyons, whilst the back 9 weaves its way around lakes and woodlands of rubber trees. Silver tees between the red and white tees allow this course to cater to a wide range of golfers from professionals to amateurs alike.
When playing the Blue Canyon Lakes Course driving it in the fairway is important to have any chance at scoring well. Many of the approach shots are over small creeks that run across the fairways, and getting to the greens in regulation is only possible from a good lie. These meandering creeks consume so many balls one golf ball diver reportedly can retrieve an average of 200 golf balls per day per hole.
The 18th hole is widely considered one of Thailand’s best finishing golf holes. Those who make it in 2 should consider themselves in an elite group as the vast majority of Phuket golf visitors find their second shots well short of the green and lost in the jungle growing out of the open canyon which fronts the green.
The Blue Canyon Lakes Course underwent a total renovation and further upgrading in 2006. The course quality is at least on par with the more famous Blue Canyon, Canyon Course. With less blind shots and a more honest test of golf the Lakes Course may even be the better of the two Blue Canyon golf courses. Moreover, optional golf carts are available and this makes playing the Lakes Course an even better option for the Phuket golfer and who prefers riding over walking when on holiday.
